Food for the soul
Ok I posted this yesterday in my journal and Rachel made a comment that made me think that perhaps it might be interesting if I x-posted it here.
What do you think?

A delivery man pulled up earlier and I was making a flyer for RDA on my computer, I could hear what I can definitely say is my favourite song drifting out from his van window. It always puts a smile on my face, trouble is it's too short really. I remembered that I don't actually have a copy of it, so iTunes has righted that wrong :)

Can you guess what the song is?

When the night has come
And the land is dark
And the moon is the only light we see
No, I won't be afraid
Oh, I won't be afraid
Just as long as you stand
Stand by me
If the sky that we look upon
Should tumble and fall
Or the mountain
Should crumble to the sea
I won't cry, I won't cry
No, I won't shed a tear
Just as long as you stand
Stand by me

Stand By Me - Ben E. King I adore the song even more than I adore the film, there's just something about it that I can't put into words.

Yellow - Coldplay - Of course this one had to feature, considering what my flist page is called :) It's about stars and it's gorgeous, it makes me smile; we're all important in our insignificant way, we're important to someone. What's the beauty in the night sky, the beauty of the heavens without someone to admire and appreciate it? When you love someone enough, this is what you should play to them.

She Will Be Loved - Maroon 5 -
This brings back happy memories of a summer past, sitting in a field with some wonderful boys, drinking coffee at midnight looking at the stars, eating chocolate mints and listening to the radio and being idiots and laughing a lot. Oh and also going to the pub and drinking lots of beer, sleeping in tents on rocky ground and waking up to 60mile an hours winds at 3am trying to rip your tent apart. The smell of freshly rolled spliffs in a hazy, leaking mess tent wafting over you while eating haribo, oh and squashed in the boot of a car with another girl while being deafened with Kate Bush *LMAO* and laughing your head off while repeatedly hitting your head on the back of the car going over a dirt track, oh what a couple of weeks that was :D If all that isn't reason enough to go to uni and do archaeology, then I don't know what is.
Since then though, this song has become associated with other people and acquired new memories. It just seems to resonate with so many people in my thoughts.

Teardrop - Massive Attack - I loved this track when it was released but never bought it, particularly as I was pretty young then and didn't have money to spend on music, nor anything decent to play it on! Ophi loves this song and used to play it when we lived in Reading, it reminds me of her :)

Ain't No Sunshine - Bill Withers - An old favourite, like Stand By Me, no matter if I haven't heard this song in months or years, I still love it. When I'd been away at uni/on digs/travelling and came home mum would say some of the lyrics to me :) It's been one of my favourites for a long, long time though I haven't owned it until recently.

Buckbeak's Flight - Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban OST - I'm flying, I'm free and nobody can touch me. It's like the soundtrack to the dreams that I always used to have. I wish Hippogriffs were real :'I

Theme from Romeo+Juliet - Nellee Hooper (Romeo+Juliet OST) - Simply beautiful. If you've never d/led this song whenever I've put it up before now, please don't miss the opportunity this time. It really is a beautiful score. If you're in the UK and you remember the piece that is always used for the football ads (The beautiful game) this is it.

Only the Beginning of the Adventure - Narnia OST This is my new Fellowship. I would normally count it as a little premature to count this as a true absolute favourite but I love it enough and it affects me in such a way that I know it belongs here. When the music swells is my most favourite part. Pure magic.

The Breaking of the Fellowship and In Dreams - Fellowship of the Ring OST - I used to listen to this every night before I fell asleep, it was my favourite piece of music for a couple of years and though I don't listen to it very often now I still adore it. Very special. Close your eyes and listen to Edward Ross. Really. Listen. To. The. Words.

There is one other piece of classical music that is just beautiful and has been one of my favourites for a long time but unfortunately I don't have it and nor do I know what it's called or who it's by :/ I think it's probably by Tchaikovsky though, I'll have a dig and see if I can't post it up later.

... Oh and listen to the words of a few of them and see if you can't detect a theme, apart from the fact that they're all pretty much really soppy!

There are plenty of other songs/pieces that I count as favourites but that is my absolute list.
Black Horse and the Cherry Tree - KT Tunstall (Eye to the Telescope) made it pretty close but it just doesn't have the same affect on me the others do. Same for Sugar, We're Goin Down (though, that is top of my normal favourites list), if I still love it the same in a year, then it shall be upgraded :) Bedshaped and Somewhere Only We Know by Keane as well as Rewind by the Phonics, are strong contenders for this category too perhaps in time they will be counted among my absolute favourites, but only time will tell their worth in my mind.
Still, I think Black Horse gets a special mention because it is a fabulous track live and hearing the album version just doesn't do it justice. Seriously, if you like KT you should really see her live, that is the most brilliant song live, I love what she does with her voice and her guitar.

So tell me, what are your favourite tracks/pieces, what music speaks to you?
What does my selection make you think of? What do you feel when you hear these songs? I'd be interested to know.
Oh and if the links run out and you want to download any of the songs, just let me know, also if you want any of the soundtracks like Narnia or Romeo+Juliet or LOTR I'd be happy to upload, same with any KT :)

I know, I try and post every so often if no one's posted in here for a while but hardly anyone seems to reply :/ still, it's more active than the other aura comms I belong to.
I suppose communities that aren't about particular fandoms/interests are a bit more difficult to keep active and alive as there isn't a proper basis for discussion.
It's funny though because when I start talking to another crystal I invariably find a lot of things in common and a lot to talk about, a lot of people just seem a bit reluctant around here to just come up with something and start a discussion. I think this comm just gets forgotten about or skipped on through when reading your flist.
*Sigh* any ideas to liven things up would be great.
Can I just ask why you feel as if there's nothing to say?

*Blinks, a small smile appears*

Sometimes I just find it hard not to be, but it isn't always a bad thing.
